When group classes just aren’t enough to solve your dogs’ issues you need to try our OMD! Sessions. We come to you where the problem takes place; whether that’s in your home or out on a walk at the park.

“A good professional should be able to help you to form a stronger and healthier bond with your dog”

When group classes just aren’t enough to solve your dogs’ issues you will benefit from some one on one attention. You can come to us or we can come to you depending on which is best suited to the issue we are dealing with. We will walk you through the ”real life” scenario’s you are struggling with and teach you how to handle the situation so you can maintain the training long after we are gone.

These sessions were created for particularly challenging dogs with almost any behavioural issue. Examples might be: possessiveness, barking, leash reactivity (lunging or pulling), mild-moderate “aggression”, or general disobedience. Some behaviours are almost impossible to cure in a regular obedience classroom environment of multiple dogs and need more than the basics of “sit, stay, come”. We use canine psychology and understand behaviour to get to the root of the problem, not just cover it up.

We offer:

Both in your home training & private use of our indoor facility when applicable

Phone/email support as needed

Weekly Homework assignments and progress check ins

10% off any of our group classes

Free Lifetime membership to our dog socialization meetup groups (details at http://doghouseobedience.com/socialization-groups/)

“Board & Train” or “Fido Free Training” may be available upon a case by case basis- inquire for details

“With every Trainer, as with every tool, you need to find the professional who fits your philosophy and values, and you should first have a conversation with him or her about views and methods before trying the trainer on your dog. Its been said that if there’s one thing any two animal professionals can agree on, its that one out of three are doing it wrong. Trust me- there are enough viewpoints, methods, and philosophies out there for you to find one that you feel right about in your heart….” Cesar Millan,

As we cannot keep large breeds in our home, our board and train service is not an option for many dogs that need it. However, I can provide your dog with extended training time without requiring you to be present.

The benefits to this process are:

Dogs are often “different” without the owner around allowing the Trainer to work further towards the target goal.

Sometimes breakthroughs can take place if more time is allowed than our usual 1 hour session to work on a particular task. This allows the trainer the flexibility to try out various techniques to see what the dog responds to best.

This also takes out the “human training” portion which will allow the Trainer to focus solely on the dogs progress. Your dog would be the ONLY dog with the trainer during this time. It is a complete private lesson.

Lessons to be held in Surrey only. Exact location may vary.

Please note: While we have in the past, In The Dog House will no longer work with large breed dogs with severe human aggression or human bite history, but would be happy to refer you to another Trainer. Your naughty Chihuahua doesn’t count… we are happy to work with him! If you are unsure where the fine line is drawn please give us as call as we WILL work with many dogs other Trainers turn away, there is just a select few we now feel is more appropriate to pass on.

What our clients have to say:

You are always welcome to repeat the same class for free if not fully satisfied with your dogs results.

2nd dog (same family) save 10%

Puppies and Beginners Basic Foundation 6 weeks $140.00

This class is geared towards puppies and/or adult dogs with little, to no, previous training . This introductory level covers all your basic foundation commands such as sit, down, stay, leave it, drop it, focus, wait and socialization skills.

Skill Builders Intermediate 6 weeks $140.00

This class is for dogs with some previous training (equivalent to our Puppy class) who are looking to advance their skill set beyond the puppy basics. Leash manners, more demanding stays and recall proficiency will be emphasized in this level.

Polished Pooch 6 weeks $140.00

Prerequisite: Skill Builders Intermediate class (or equivelant training)

This class puts the polishing touches on your dogs training. You will deepen your relationship with your dog through creative training games, build your dogs attentiveness and learn the importance of body language communication. Attain extended stays, an off leash heel, & build patience and manners in greeting dogs and people. This is the icing on the cake.

Outdoor Control 4 weeks $100.00 (Offered May-October only)

If you are like most people your dog did pretty good or downright great in class, but at home and everywhere else acted like he had never been trained! Outdoor sessions are a natural progression to our classroom work. Now that your dog knows all his basic commands and then some, you are ready for practice in the real world! Outdoors is often underestimated in its ability to distract your dog. People often expect that their dog should just be able to come back when playing off leash at the park, or heel next to you. The reality is this has to be practiced, and in a specific way. We help you to obtain control of your dog on leash (and off leash) in all outdoor environments by using the outdoor world as our classroom. Main focus is on listening despite distractions, attaining off leash control, & superior stay, recall and leash manners.

Prerequisite is Skill Builders Intermediate (or equivelant)

Reactive Dogs 6 weeks $175.00

*no extremely aggressive dogs please

Does your dog lunge, squeal and bark at the sight of another dog? This class is for over excited or mildly unfriendly dogs that need to learn some manners and patience. Our goal is to teach acceptance of the presence of other dogs in the same room, have the dog be able to focus on the owners and walk past another dog without reacting. Dogs will be taught to focus, heel, stay, down and come.

2 private lessons held at our facility + 4 weeks group class

It was a lengthy email assuring me everything will be fine and at the end she said “try not to worry too much mama, she’s in good hands.” The best part was that I got to see that she WAS in good hands by the emails Desiree sent everyday with pictures of Maggie and a note on how things were going. This made my trip all that much better! I don’t trust many people with my dog, but I definitely trust Desiree.”

Workshops are designed to focus on one particular topic, in this case: “come when called”.

They are 1 hour workshops, once a week, for 2 consecutive weeks, with a minimum of 3, and maximum of 6, dogs. There is zero tolerence for aggression in this workshop. Dogs in this workshop MUST be dog friendly as they will be in very close contact with other dogs to create a distracting “park like” setting. Overly friendly and excited dogs who don’t listen are ok! If you have a questionable dog we would be happy to work with you privately on your “come when called”, or other, skills.

The sessions will build a proper foundation and help you to deal with distractions.

This is a beginner to intermediate level course and is not recommended for young puppies less than 5 months of age or very advanced dogs looking to polish their skills.

Looking to add a new addition to your family?

Why not get a professionals advice? When buying a car you think about looks and maybe even price, but you more importantly you think about how you will use the car: do you need a truck to tow a trailer? or a small compact car to be fuel efficient and get you from point A to B? or maybe a mini-van for family camping trips and kids soccer games?

When choosing a dog people tend to get stuck on looks and forget a dog has breed traits and a personality of his own. In my opinion, many dogs are surrendered to shelters simply because the owner chose the wrong dog to match his lifestyle. I’d like to offer you my knowledge and experience with dogs to suggest what type of dog suits you, your family and your life best, and where you might go about finding this perfect companion.

If I haven’t convinced you and you insist on going about it on your own, PLEASE consider adopting from a reliable rescue organization. If you absolutely feel you must get a new puppy beware of puppy mills and be cautious of dogs for sale on the Internet, in local newspapers and even pet stores. These dogs often come from unsanitary and unsafe surroundings and you could be contributing to breeding for profit from some people that only care about money and not your sweet new puppy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pVzSzS3kYgg

Your best options are 1-To find a CKC breeder http://www.ckc.ca/en/, or 2- Adopt a rescue that needs your help http://www.petfinder.com/index.html. There are some fabulous dogs that are looking for families to love right now. It is a cruel MYTH that all dogs from shelters come with irreversable “baggage”. Some of the calmest, sweetest, most reliable loyal dogs I have met have been rescues. There are so many benefits for both you and the dog that go along with rescuing, if you give me 5 minutes of your time I bet you’ll see it the same way!

I know puppies are cute and everyone wants one, but before you commit consider the amount of time, energy and money that goes into raising a puppy. This is a huge decision and I encourage you not to take it lightly. No one ever gets a dog with the intention to neglect, re-home or surrender it back to a shelter, but this is what happens to thousands of dogs daily… and worse.
